Taxi has been around for more than 100 years
Uber is founded in less than 10 years ago
GrabTaxi is just 5 years old (South East Asia)
While as consumers, we love the introduction of Uber and GrabTaxi simply because it is easier to get a ride and most of the time cheaper, we may not realize the real effect and impact this change is bringing to us.
In short, the taxi industry itself has gotten itself into a state that it didn't put consumers interest as a priority; for so long that Uber has the opportunity and enough time to penetrate into its market share, which became a phenomena that others follow through . . .
Today I took a GrabTaxi to town and it costed me $15, which is significantly cheaper than taxi fare. And it's just a few thumb presses on my phone to get it to my door. The driver used to help start up a printing business and has a son who is studying in another state. During the morning uber was having a surge - meaning it will charge extra, plus their uber cars are much further away to come pick me up. I paid $20 cash to Grab Car driver
Then in the afternoon I took a Uber back home from town. There are many uber cars in town so it took only a few minutes for them to come pick me up. Uber system is much more precise. My phone will prompt me to walk out at the exact right moment while Grab Car needs to call me to ask where I was. It costed me RM14.34, charged to my credit card. The driver had 3 daughters whom the youngest one is still in university. He used to work in administration bring athletic teams all over the world.
Both Grab and Uber divers have contributed their opinions about Grab, Uber and traditional Taxi. Both are able to sensibly ask and make a few points of their own. Both agree that Taxi drivers should change and give better services instead of just making complains, after all, everyone are just trying to earn a living or pass some time. Both Grab and Uber agree on giving good services. Uber driver appeared to be better trained.
I am trying very hard to get back to a traditional taxi experience, how should I get a taxi to come to me with my phone ?
